Symphony Closed dates–Reminder

March 15th, 2017 Categories: RCLS, LARC & Others

When unexpected closings are marked in Symphony, all that does is remove those dates from calculation of overdue fines. It does NOT change due dates, or give users extra days to return items.

Example: Your library declares today, 3/15, a closed, no-fine day. Items due today (3/15) that are returned tomorrow (3/16) will still be overdue one day, and charged one day overdue. At the same time, an item due 3/13, if returned tomorrow, would also just calculate a one-day overdue fine, since 3/14 and 3/15 will be skipped over.

To avoid this situation, on days that immediately follow a declared closed, no-fine day, we recommend ALSO using bookdrop checkin and setting the discharge date to the last full day you were open.
