For those of you who don’t know, we are in the midst of a massive renovation,
and as of today, have had to shoehorn our main floor into four small rooms.

We have spent the better part of five days emptying our lobby, staff room and
fiction room of every book, every shelf, pen, paper clip, rubber band, scrap of
paper, and stick of furniture. As soon as they can get here, crews will demolish
the ceiling in our lobby, which means the office overhead will also need to be
emptied of its contents. This is the office and storeroom where Barry works.
If you’ve ever seen Barry’s workspace, you will understand what we are up
against. One thing we’ve discovered in such a giant purge — everything
we were sure we didn’t own but have actually had all along. Of course, we
went out and bought new stuff, so now we have a twelve-year supply of jumbo
paper clips. And we finally tossed the two (yes, two) manual typewriters.

That’s my snow day.

As long as she is up to it, I will pick Ann up on the 23rd so she can try the Cookbook Club’s Irish food, all of which will be prepared by people who are not Irish. She can critique us!

Operators are standing by . . .

Be warm, be safe.

How to Correctly Shovel Snow

· Stretch & warm up before heading out.
· If you can, push the snow rather than lift the snow.
· When lifting a shovel filled with snow, bend your knees & use your legs rather than your back.
· A shovel of snow weighs about 7 pounds but can weigh as much at 20 pounds if dense and wet. Yikes, that’s heavy!
· Take it slow & take regular breaks. Don’t work to the point of exhaustion.
· Drink water, keep hydrated.
