Summer Reading 2017

Under the Sea Children's Summer Reading 2017

July 3- August 9
Play our new Summer Reading BINGO game! Pick up a bingo card, and fill in the squares based on the books your read and other fun activities! If you fill out a row of squares on the BINGO card, you will win a prize! North Rockland Central School District (NRCSD) residents will also receive a ticket to our weekly show listed below. Children's Summer Reasing is open to children ages 5 and up.

Weekly Shows

All weekly shows takes place in the Village Branch on Wednesdays at 4 pm and at the Main Library on Wednesdays at 7 pm. Tickets can be used at any show at either branch.

Come and watch our special summer reading programs on Thursdays at 4 pm at the Village branch and 7 pm at the Main Library in Garnerville. Registration begins one week before each program for Reading Club members only.

Read to Me Club!

For anyone too young for the Summer Reading Club, come and join our Read to Me Club! Earn stickers for books you read at home or in Storytime. Enjoy weekly crafts at Friday, 10:30 am. Registration for each event opens one week prior. Sign up for the Read to Me Club today!

Featured Children's Programs

Introduction to Guitar with Burr Johnson

Thursdays, July 13 and August 10, 6 pm
For all ages. Hear a brief description of the history of guitar and then learn about music styles in which the guitar is prominent. Then pick up a guitar (you can bring your own or use one provided). Burr explains the basics of holding the guitar, playing melodies, strumming chords, and using the pick. Each student moves along at their own individual pace. Experience the joy of guitar playing! Registration is now open.

Harry Potter Party with Band in a Horcrux!

Saturday, July 29, 1 pm
For ages 6-18. Band in a Horcrux is a Harry Potter-themed music duo. Hogwarts house banners will be given out during the concert and kids can make a craft after the concert! Free tickets available at both buildings starting July 17 for HKDPL members and July 24 for everyone else.

Eclipse Viewing Party

The eclipse is coming! The eclipse will start at 1:23 pm and end at 4:01 pm. This viewing party is the final event in a series of fun and educational activities about this amazing and rare celestial event. Receive free eclipse viewing glasses by attending any of the prior eclipse programs. Additional glasses will be available but supplies are limited. View NASA's filming of the eclipse on our large screen! Families welcome, no registration!

Literacy Through Photography

Mondays, July 10, 17, 24 & 31 and August 7, 5:30 pm
Students Reception: Saturday, August 12, 2 pm
For children, grades 3-5. Children will learn to express themselves through photography and writing stories. Basic photo skills will be taught. Cameras will be provided. Registration is now open for everyone.

Comics Plus Library Edition

Read Comics Online at the Library for Free!

Come and read over 100 comic books at the Library using Comics Plus: Library Edition! Featuring top publishers and creators such as Archie Comics, IDW Publishing, Dynamite Entertainment, Image Comics, Red 5 Comics and more.

Start off by creating an account. Enter your email address and a password. Once logged in, you may browse the library, select a publisher or search for titles, and check out comics you want to read.
